Job description

About Us

Well-known financial advisors Michael Kitces and Alan Moore witnessed firsthand the growing demand for fee-for-service financial planning. This inspired them to create a solution that could streamline billing processes for advisors while ensuring regulatory compliance. Since its public launch in 2018, AdvicePay has become a cornerstone of the financial planning landscape, serving thousands of advisors and firms nationwide and earning recognition for its innovative approach.

Today, AdvicePay continues to grow and adapt with new features and partnerships, enhancing the platform's capabilities. Driven by our belief in the fee-for-service model, our mission remains clear: to empower advisors and firms in offering fee-for-service financial planning. Our aim is to make getting paid for advice easy and scalable for everyone involved – from advisors to the home office, and clients. As the industry evolves, we're dedicated to staying ahead of the curve, ensuring that AdvicePay remains the trusted solution for financial professionals nationwide.

We are headquartered in Bozeman, Montana and we are incredibly proud to be listed on the Inc. 5000 list of America's Fastest-Growing Private Companies for 3 years in a row, as well as being recognized as a 2022 WealthTech 100 company, which places us among the top 100 innovative FinTech providers in the world addressing opportunities faced by the wealth and asset management industries.

You’ll love working here if you value - and want to contribute to - a positive, inclusive, innovative, and “Get Sh*t Done” culture where teammates help one another succeed and are committed to doing the right thing. If you're up for the challenge of disrupting an industry, join us.

About the Position

As a Senior QA Analyst, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, reliable releases across complex features, systems, and integrations. You’ll own the testing strategy and execution for major initiatives, partnering closely with developers and product owners to surface risk early and solve problems before they reach customers.

In this role, you’ll balance hands-on testing with mentorship and cross-functional collaboration, helping to evolve QA practices that scale as the organization grows. You’ll have a meaningful voice in how quality is built into our process, not just checked at the end, and you’ll contribute to continuous improvements that make our products - and our teams - stronger over time.

This role is for you if you enjoy working in complex systems, care deeply about building quality in from the start, and want to influence not just what gets released, but how teams think about quality overall.

What You’ll Be Doing

Test Strategy & Planning

  • Define test strategy and scope for complex features and projects.

  • Design risk-based test coverage for workflows and integrations.

  • Evaluate testing effectiveness using outcomes and defect trends.

Test Execution & Release Readiness

  • Execute end-to-end testing across systems, integrations, and environments.

  • Validate workflows and data integrity to support release confidence.

  • Anticipate integration and data risks during planning and execution.

Bug Management & Quality Investigation

  • Lead bug triage and influence prioritization based on impact and risk.

  • Investigate root causes of complex or cross-system defects.

  • Identify recurring defects, quality trends, and systemic risks.

  • Ensure regression risk is minimized through appropriate validation.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Participate in refinement and planning to surface QA considerations early.

  • Communicate test results, risks, and quality trends clearly to stakeholders.

  • Act as a quality ambassador across teams.

  • Coach others on effective exploratory testing, defect investigation, and effective test execution.

Process Improvement

  • Improve QA, workflows, and tooling to increase reliability, efficiency, and release confidence.

  • Partner with engineers on regression and automation strategy.

  • Use quality signals to drive continuous improvements.

  • Build deep product and industry knowledge to anticipate quality and integration risks.

  • Identify QA debt and recommend pragmatic prioritization.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Measurables:

  • Bug escape rate (defects found post-release).

  • Test case coverage

Application

  • In lieu of a cover letter, please respond to the following prompt in 2–3 paragraphs:

At AdvicePay, we’re actively working to mature our QA practice while continuing to ship. This means balancing hands-on testing with improving how quality is built into our processes, tooling, and collaboration across product and engineering.

In 2–3 paragraphs, describe a time when you helped improve or evolve a QA or testing process on a team. Ground your response in a specific example from a role listed on your resume (please reference the company and role).

In your example, explain how you identified that something needed to be improved, what problem you were trying to solve, what changes you made (or influenced), and how you knew the change was effective. We’re especially interested in how you approached maturity incrementally, while still supporting day-to-day delivery, and how that experience would translate to helping grow and mature QA at AdvicePay.

  • Resume (to be uploaded)

Note on AI use: While AI is a useful tool for refining your work, please ensure this response is primarily in your own words and reflects specifics from your own experience. We're interested in seeing your unique communication style and personality shine through.

Please note that we review every application individually, and because our team is small, we’ll be closing this posting once we’ve received a manageable number of applicants (around 50 - 75).
